Stumble ("we", "us", or "our") helps you see the people you cross paths with in everyday life. Because the App works with location, we have designed it so that your exact location is never shown to other people, and you stay in control of what others can see. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using the Stumble mobile application (the "App").
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: Your phone number, used to sign you in with a one-time passcode. Your phone number is private and is never shown to other users.
Profile information: The display name, short bio, profile photo, optional profile video, and social links you choose to add.
Location: Your device's location, used to detect when you cross paths with other people. Depending on the permission you grant, this happens while you use the App ("While Using") or also in the background ("Always"). See section 3 for exactly how location is handled.
Crossed paths: A record of the people you have crossed paths with, how many times, and when.
Reveal requests and settings: Requests you send or accept to share socials or "where you met" with another person, your privacy settings, ghost mode, and the people you block.
Reports: Reports you submit about other users, including the reason and any details you provide.
Notifications: A push notification token and your device's time zone, so we can deliver notifications at sensible local times.
Subscription status: Whether you hold an active Stumble Premium subscription, managed through Apple's App Store.
Usage and device information: Anonymised event data and general device information, used to keep the App reliable and improve it.
2. What We Do Not Collect
Your date of birth, age, gender, or email address
Your contacts or address book
Payment details (all purchases are handled by Apple)
Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data
A history of everywhere you have been — we keep only your current position, and it expires (see section 3)
3. How Location Works
Your exact location is private. Your current position is stored in a private record that only you and our servers can access. It is used solely to detect when you and another person were near each other at the same time. It is overwritten as you move and expires automatically — no route history is kept.
Others only see a rough area. To show who is nearby, other people in your area may see that you are, or recently were, around — limited to an area of roughly 150 metres, never your exact position. These records are visible only to people currently in the same area and are deleted automatically after about three days.
"Where you met" is private by default. The exact place where you crossed paths with someone is stored privately for the two of you and can only be seen if you both agree to reveal it. Either of you can withdraw that access at any time.
Ghost mode. When ghost mode is on, we stop collecting your location, you are removed from nearby lists, and no one can cross paths with you.
You are in control. You can change or revoke location access at any time in your iPhone's Settings. Without location access, the App cannot detect who you cross paths with.
4. What Other Users Can See
Your display name, bio, profile photo, and profile video
Your social links — if your socials are public, or if you have both agreed to reveal them
That you have crossed paths, how many times, and roughly when
That you are nearby, or were recently, within a rough area (see section 3)
Other users never see your phone number, your exact location, or anything you have not chosen to share. People you block cannot see you, and you cannot see them.
5. How We Use Your Information
To sign you in and keep your account secure
To detect when you cross paths with other people and show them to you
To show your profile to the people you cross paths with
To handle reveal requests, blocks, and reports, and to keep the community safe
To send notifications, such as a daily summary of the people you crossed paths with and reveal requests
To provide Stumble Premium features and restore purchases
To keep the App reliable and improve it using anonymised usage data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Firebase / Google Cloud infrastructure and is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is protected by strict security rules: private data such as your exact location, phone number, and private social links can only be read by you, or — where you have both agreed — by the specific person you chose to share with. Matching people who crossed paths happens on our servers, not on other users' devices.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage is completely secure.
7. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
Firebase (Google): Sign-in, database, file storage, server functions, push notifications, app integrity checks, and analytics — privacy policy
Apple: App Store subscriptions, push notification delivery, and maps used to display "where you met" — privacy policy
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Your current location expires automatically and is overwritten as you move.
Nearby "who's here" records are deleted automatically after about three days.
Your profile and the people you have crossed paths with are kept while your account is active.
You can delete your account at any time in the App under Profile. Deletion permanently removes your profile, photos, videos, location records, the people you crossed paths with (including your entry on their side), reveal requests, shared "where you met" records, blocks, and your sign-in account. Reports other users have submitted about an account may be kept for a limited time where needed to keep the community safe. Residual copies in backups are cleared within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
Stumble is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit your profile and delete your account directly in the App. For any other request, contact us at contact@heystumble.com.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, let you know in the App. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
